In college application process, art & design colleges look for drawings from life, not because they expect you to be ‘a drawer’ but because of what drawing from life says about:

What you observe intensely

How you problem-solve cleverly

What makes you unique

The key to showing all this is to practice actively changing what you see - making boring objects come alive and creating your own magic and drama through composition, line quality, value, pattern, texture etc.
